COMMONWEALTH ELECTORAL ACT 1918 – SECT 245 (14)
“Without limiting the circumstances that may constitute a valid and sufficient reason for not voting, the fact that an elector believes it to be part of his or her religious duty to abstain from voting constitutes a valid and sufficient reason for the failure of the elector to vote.”

That said, this election is so important that everyone should vote to ensure that there
is a presence in the Senate of supporters of the constitution who will ask the right
questions and hold the ruling party to account. Even better if such people held the balance
of power in the Upper House!
