Putting your TFN into the PAYG form with new employer is ‘voluntary’ as you can choose not to have one or not to supply one. The kicker is though, the employer is obliged to deduct 45% of your wages in tax. The tax is paid on your behalf does not negate the fact it is still ‘voluntary’ on your part.
